2002
Will Rogers Medallion Award
for Cowboy Poetry Books
From
the AWA's Rope Burns, May/June 2002:
The
Academy of Western Artists is proud to announce its Will
Rogers Medallion Award to five Cowboy Poetry books released
in 2001, books that exemplify outstanding excellence in content
and design. Each of these volumes was judged to be of enduring
quality, and each represents the best examples of preservation
and celebration of the history and spirit of the West.
AWA
Directory Bobby Newton says "The number of outstanding Cowboy
Books released in 2001 led us to create the Will Rogers Medallion
Award. The talent and experience of the creators of these books
raises the bar for quality publications. Each is a lasting contribution
to the cowboy heritage movement."
The
Will Rogers Medallion was awarded to:
Cowboy
Poetry: Rhymes, Reasons, and Pack Saddle Proverbs, by
Chris Isaacs
Cowboy
Poetry: Rhymes, Reasons, and Pack Saddle Proverbs, by Chris Isaacs,
was one of the five Cowboy Poetry books to be chosen for the award.
A
blind jury selected the winning books, using rigorous criteria.
The jury considered books submitted for the annual Buck Ramsey
Award for Best Cowboy Poetry Book, a part of the AWA Will Rogers
Awards. Each of the award-winning Will Rogers Medallion books
and many others are eligible for the Buck Ramsey award, which
is given based on the result of votes by AWA members and announced
at the annual AWA awards show (held this year on July 9, 2002,
in Fort Worth, Texas. Call 580-389-5350 for more information).
